Nah. He’s not sincere. To quote Maya Angelou, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”

It can a both things are good deal here. He can be genuine about this, and he could also be saying this as a way to signal other big-named Republican figures to NOT attack an incredibly sweet, loving moment since that would be a weird and total asshole move to do (which is something smart enough Republicans want to stop Trump and others from being in order to come off more likeable).

He’s not genuine but at least he’s willing to not stoop so low as to mock Gus. Baby steps, I guess.
