It now feels like social media is harming the artist-fan relationship. Rather than helping artist and fan come together, social media is prioritizing its own interests (profit) at the detriment and of this sacred relationship. But we’re now all so embedded in using it, so where do we go from here?

I read a comment somewhere by someone who shared the perspective (and I paraphrase greatly) that it’s not social media which has inhibited connection and creating, it’s that audience taste and needs have shifted, which I found that to be an interesting and thought provoking perspective to consider. I think we are living in a time of massive expansion for humanity, which comes with a ton of challenge and struggle as people begin to go deep and face their shadows, perhaps more than ever before.

I can’t get the replies to load so maybe this is where you were going with it, but they got greedy! They saw artists making more money from the direct-to-fan connection and they wanted a cut. Plain and simple. Now it’s just modern day payola.
