I learned through reporting this "ramenomics" story that there are "masculine" ramen shops and "feminine" ramen shops... it's of course a matter of preference, but there are some ramen shops that men usually like (like the one in the photo here) because they have hearty, oily, heavy soup. And women don't always feel welcome in such places or feel it's socially acceptable to eat alone there.
