But also, one criticism: the Dutch, or specifically the VOC, did not just 'launch several attacks' - they massacred thousands of civilians, sending hundreds of people into slavery, contracted Japanese mercenaries to decapitate village leaders, burned down homes. The specific instruction from the Gentlemen Seventeen, which I kid you not is the name of the VOC's governing body ('Heeren XVII' in Dutch), was: 'burn everywhere their dwelling'.
