Not quite as bad, but I go by a shortened version of my middle name, have since birth. I had a job in college where they called me by my legal first name since it was on my paperwork and I just couldn’t find an opening to set the record straight. So for three months I answered to one name at work and a different name in all other areas of my life. Finally one day I showed up at work with a purse with a K on it and a coworker asked what’s with the K, and I had to sheepishly explain my name.
