I’ve seen people comp their work to anime, too, which makes more sense since anime encompass a broad range of worlds & stories that aren’t inherently “Japanese.” But K-dramas aren’t like that (yet). Even fantasy K-dramas borrow from Korean myths. And thrillers & zombie shows like Squid Game & All of Us Are Dead all deal with real Korean anxieties & cultural elements… You can’t remove Koreans from K-drama & use “K-drama” to pitch your non-Korean work. That’s just nonsensical. And exploitative.
