Found a picture of my old R53 JCW. Standard/stock here, but it didn’t take long before it was producing 253bhp and had a raft of handling mods. Isn’t the shape ageing well? They’re also one of the last performance bargains atm, with respectable examples listed for £3,000

17 小時內	James Gould james76g	I've had both an R53 (Checkmate) and an R56 (Camden) but I really didn't get on with them. The R53 was good on track to be fair (LSD helped) but it was dreadful as a regular car. The R56 just irritated me, mainly on account that the ride was terrible and despite being a Cooper the engine lacked any sparkle whatsoever. I'm glad I've tried them both, but I'd never have another.
