I see it the other way around, but I totally understand your point of view. In my mind, the first one is demo-ware. Looks fun with the colors, but once you need to print it in a variety of ways/formats/places, and you can't use gradients, it loses a lot of what makes it so fun. I think the official logo, while flat by design, works really well and I prefer it. (But to reiterate, I understand the other POV! That's the joy of subjective disagreement. One man's Zeppelin is another's Nickelback)
