我在有全球業務的德國企業上班 我德文不怎麼樣，要我開會半小時以上，我只能放空 基本上，長遠來看如果想在原本的公司升職 學好德文是一定要的，而且也只有用德文才能更好的做networking 這情況我很有同感，但真的沒什麼辦法 1. 學好德文 2. 向主管表達自己用德文有困難，如果整個組執意要使用德文。問主管可不可以請公司提供德文課程，同時間也在每一次開完會後，跟同事確認開會內容 3. 跟主管反應，不要讓自己為這種事情內耗，他們根本不在意別人，不舒服就要說。很重要的會，我會直接跟同事說開會用英文可以嗎？因為德文的話，我無法理解 我個人是三個行動都有做 雖然長期來說，德文還是要學 但我也能理解缺乏動力，被霸凌的感覺 共勉之了

I view this as an opportunity to learn a new language. At least you know it will be in good use

You should be thankful they pushed you so you had to switch your brain language. It will be better for sure. If you want to stay, you can‘t avoid speaking the language forever. It‘s about time. Keep up! 💪🏽

Be confident, have patience, don’t be afraid to ask when you don’t understand. You will be fine in 6 months

It depends on what you want. If you want to become business-fluent in German, bite the bullet. If work is not the arena where you want to learn German - which is 100% fair - ask them to switch to English. You were hired without the need for German. That shouldn’t change now just because they are lazy. I was in the same shoes twice. It helped me learn German super fast. If you decide to tough it out, maybe ask them if you can MS-record meetings so you can make sure you don’t miss anything.

You are not hired to speak german right? Then speak to your senior management about it; business german and daily german are very different, and it is a matter of respect from the german colleagues not to switch to german. If your job requires you to speak business german at some point, then see if there can be more support to learn german. Balancing learning a new language as a working adult isn’t easy and one would need to allow oneself’s time to do so, otherwise one will be too stressed out

I am sorry to say but they are just rude. You are hired without the requirement of business German. Please tell your manager your concern. In the long run, find a new job. I have a feeling that they just not respecting people and embrace diversity.

Talk to your management as well as HR about this. It is NOT ok to push to speak German when not everybody is fluent. What's your employer's policy on language? Does your employer have a Betriebsrat? If so, talk to them about your situation. They will most likely have a fit that you are pressured into a situation that will result in you not fully understanding your tasks anymore. If your colleagues want to help you improve your German, they need to make regular breaksto check that you understood

The Germans in comments might not like it, but I strongly believe it is all about power and sticking to it using the language card. I have seen nobody in Germany who has not experienced similar behaviour. NOBODY! It does not mean all the experiences ar so. I just say that I have seen none who does not confirm this language game in Getmany. a problem if you don't learn the language. Good luck! 1/2

For the one who recommends learning the language: how on Earth one can speak German so well to be able to partcipate actively in a meeting witjin just 1.5 years!?! BUT considering this-not-nice-reality, my recommendation would be telling your colleagues that you cannot fully engage yourself in the meetings if it is going to be totally in German OR accept the unpleasant reality and learn the language as much as you can and as fast as you can- it would be always a prob. 2/2
