I have heard that it is extremely tough to get a job right after getting a PhD, but I believe it depends on your field and the economy. Some of the professors I know had to do postdocs😭

I ask this as someone toying with the idea of getting a PhD and going into academia. Are most people who do this happy with their decision?

From what I’ve read and heard going from journalism to academia is jumping from one really tough industry to another in terms of pay and job security. Anne-Helen Peterson has written about it on her Substack and done shows about it on her podcasts Work Appropriate and Culture Study
