Mid 30s guy here: I want one so bad to take kids to school in, but we can't afford it ... yet.

I am an older millennial and my friend group is mostly younger than me. I am the only one without an e-bike. Watching my younger friends use theirs as a car replacement in our small city is inspiring. Bad weather, hills, kids and all.

My dad, in his 70s, has an ebike. Or rather a conversion for his existing road bike. It’s been transformational for him. He has various health issues and this allows him to get outdoors, socialise with friends and keep up with a hobby he loves.

Young people are used to e scooters and I have sold several e-bikes to kids going to Uni , and people working food delivery. Though most customers are older who are getting into cycling .

I see lots of sub 40 year olds on rental e bikes. My favorite though is an elderly couple with an etrike that has a back seat. She rides in the back seat. She looks to be in her 90s, with mobility challenges. It’s fantastic to see them on the bike path.

The only member of my family with an e-bike is my father, who is in his mid 70s. I’ve never considered one as I have no physical limitations that preclude a human powered bike. I could see the utility for people using a bicycle as primary transit though.

My dad is 71. He rented an e-mtb last weekend and came riding with us (his 40-something year old kids and his 14, 12 & 9 year old grandkids). It’s so great! Although trying to keep up with him on the climbs was a workout. 😅 needless to say he’s going to buy one now.

I have an e-bike. We bought it during the pandemic so I could ride with my husband again. He is an avid cyclist and years ago, I stopped being able to keep up. Having a pedal assist e-bike allows us to ride together.

I refuse to get an e-bike until I’m 70. If I’m still in good enough shape then, I won’t bother.

Late Boomer here. After decades of high impact sports my knees are toast. Ebikes take the strain off on the steep hills we have where I live.
