About the "do you need followers to get published?" discourse - I didn't when I first published nine years ago. But I will say a few months ago my agent spoke to some publishers about whether they'd be interested in a book I'd written and one of them dismissed me completely/wasn't interested (without even hearing about the book) because I didn't have a TikTok following.
