It's unfortunate that the political attacks against those who watch for and study foreign interference in government, tech companies, academia and civil society have made us less prepared to detect, investigate and respond to the wide range of foreign actors who are trying to influence the US election. This was never a partisan issue; the use of these techniques by one adversary against one party in 2016 was never going to bind the hands of every enemy of the United States.
