Who will certify the elections in the USA when Kamala Harris wins? I thought it was done by the vice president, but as she is the sitting vice president will someone else be appointed to do so?

The correct answer is Congress.

She will have to do it. Most recently, George Bush certified his own victory in 1989 just as other vice presidents (like Hubert Humphrey and Richard Nixon) certified their own losses. It’s their responsibility as president of the senate.

I think she does it. Gore did when he lost in 2000

It’ll be her, just like it was Al Gore when bush won.

Nope, she'll do it. Bush 1 certified his win, and Gore certified his "loss". This needs to be talked about more because trump will get his followers worked up over how "crooked" it all is.

The VP does not certify results…states individually certify results. The VP simply performs ministerial duties only / basically reads the results. Many VPs throughout history presided over this ceremony for their own win or defeat.

Certification happens on or around the first week in January (remember 1/6/2021?). Swearing in is January 20th. Whoever is VP on certification day presides. In this case, it will be Harris, regardless of election outcome.

She will. It happens. In 2000, VP Al Gore had to certify his loss to George W. Bush. It’s really a ceremonial duty.
