It's been almost a year since I started crochet and I still haven't written a pattern. I don't feel pressured but I really want to write one, probably tomprove myself. Don't rush yourself and just enjoy crochet.

Advice from personal experience is that just start. If you don't start, you will never know where you are. If you want feedback from the public, maybe allow the first pattern to be a free pattern. I'd highly recommend applying for as many pattern tests as you can, both before and after you start writing patterns since I always find a new thing to learn from after each pattern test. My first pattern was released after 2-3 pattern tests which I felt like I know what I'm doing.

I learned to crochet 30 years ago (yikes!) But didn't start writing patterns until about... 8ish years ago? And they were mostly just my notes on how to replicate things I had made. I recommend reading and trying lots of other designers' patterns and seeing what you like/dislike about them. For example, I dislike patterns that don't include row counts, or that write out their instructions in paragraph form. So I don't write mine that way. And I make sure to include tons of helpful pictures!

Don't feel pressured into writing patterns if you don't want to. Your creativity will prompt you when to start. I started writing patterns for myself after many years of just making notes about alterations on bought/free patterns. My patterns are for myself because i don't want the hassle of writing it so everyone can read it. Enjoy the craft and process and pattern writing may follow 😊

I’ve been crocheting for almost 7 years and I have ZERO desire or pressure to write patterns. I don’t think my adhd would let me. I can modify like a mofo on amigurumi but writing from scratch scares the f*ck out of me.

I started crocheting around 2018 and still struggle to write up patterns, even though I create my own designs almost always! Don’t let social media pressure you into believing there’s only one way to be.. Wait until you’re ready to start writing patterns - or don’t write them at all if it’s not your thing!
