Question for Brontë fans before I get lynched at book club. Helen in the Tenant of Wildfell Hall isn’t actually a likeable person is she? I mean nobody else in the book is, and yes the men are horrid. But surely everyone agrees her personality ranges from irritating naivety through sanctimonious to judgemental with little in between.
