Not trying to start a firestorm but having never worked in the food industry, I’m trying to understand some of the stuff being discussed about taxes and tips. I understand the profit margin is small is the reason they say they can’t pay higher wages. But why is taxing tips such a hot issue? If they aren’t taxed how does a business know how much SS to pay in for you for one thing? I’m not against tipping I just don’t know how this all works and would like to get a better underdtanding. Thanks.
