Why do people go for jogs on the side of the road when there is a perfectly good sidewalk literally right there? Does anyone know?

Camber and drop curbs can make a sidewalk (pavement here in the UK) uncomfortable for knees, ankles and hips.

Sidewalk/concrete is the hardest surface you can run on. It’s better for your body and joints to run on asphalt, which is not as hard as concrete.

Sometimes the sidewalks are messed up. I run on sidewalks if they are along busy streets. On non busy streets run on side of the road.

Where I am the sidewalks are uneven and trees overhang them so I prefer the side of the road

Uneven cracks in the sidewalks, kids, dogs, people, bikes, skateboards.

I love when non-runners call it jogging when they can’t even run 😂

Used to think the same, until I become the exact runner

I do it for several reasons. First, the asphalt is softer and kinder to my aging joints; people are often walking themselves and their dogs so I neither want to surprise them not trip or otherwise make contact with them, in winter, ice builds up quicker on the sidewalks, more even surface, etc.
