I student taught in a combo K-1 class and it was really fantastic. No complaints, only good things. Trust the teacher. Even first year teachers come with literal years of observation and practicum experience across the grade levels. Most of us are licensed from PK-6th grade or K-5th.

I was in a 3rd/4th combo class as a kid and it was just school. Didn’t impact me really. Except that I had two years with one great teacher and she and I are still friends today. We share knitting patterns and recipes with one another often.

I was in a combo 4/5/6 class and loved it. The slight variation of skills and ages allowed for more diverse friendships and collaboration where kids can with with each other's strengths to solve problems. I did go to a hippy dippy school so my experience is different than your average

In my area, we have one Montessori elementary school and all classes are multiage groups. It has a cult following 🤣! There is worry about getting in! I second the new teacher issue: not an issue and can be a huge asset. S/he will be more aware of the latest trends and likely very responsive to parents.

Combined classes can be a good thing. Also, give the teacher some grace. We’ve all been new at something.

Mixed aged classes are a wonderful experience for students

He gets to showcase his skills as a leader. Growing up, I went to a small school and 2-5 were in one while 6-8 were in another. It was actually a really great experience to have to interact with all grade levels. And as far as the teacher, we all have a first day teaching or doing our job, a little grace, a deep breathe, and see how the year goes is probably the best approach.

OMG... They still do this? I was in a combo 4th/5th grade class when I started 5th grade. It was only temporary until they hired another 5th grade teacher (who wasn't a very good teacher). The new 5th grade class was in a classroom across the hall, then later in the semester, they moved us to a new room closer to the other 5th graders. Good luck to your grandson!

Hi! I was in a combo 3/4 & 4/5 class. I had a great experience in both and was set up for middle school because I was used to working independently.
