If god were real and had such a deeply personal interest in whether or not we believe in him &, at the very least, follow his rules or be condemned to eternal torture, then he is absolutely remiss in failing to make belief in him as inate in us as breathing. Failing that, the provision of verifiable evidence should be the absolute minimum (instead of the zero evidence we have).

The argument itself isn't rational. Because you can't trick yourself into belief, you would only be saying the words, which an omniscient god would know is bullshit, and (even if god IS real) for which you have now committed the sin of bearing false witness.
