Those in Ireland, legally what do you have to have in the car to drive over there? Mixed messages online (warning triangle, high vis, fire extinguisher, first aid kid etc), so a trip to Halfords is coming up.

Been driving all over Ireland for 30 years and not given much thought to any of those things. All sound sensible though wherever you’re going.

Car needs to be roadworthy, taxed and insured. Sat Nav for pretty much everywhere, if you're driving near Kerry a quick novena.

Been driving to Ireland from the UK for years. Legally you don't need anything. It's France where you legally need things in the car. Don't worry about it. However, the person who said you should have certain objects is right, it's a good idea to get them. But don't panic over it, if you don't have it you won't get in trouble with the Garda.

We went to Ireland last month, had absolutely nothing extra. We did check but couldn’t find any legal requirements

None of them are legally required. Wear a seat belt, don’t drink and drive, don’t undertake in the hard shoulder. Exactly the same as the UK.

It’s law to wave at every driver & pedestrian on country roads. Rosary beads must hang from rear view mirror & you must shout ‘what the feck is wrong with you’ to at least 1 car per day. Enjoy 😉

I was gobsmacked to learn about the kit that's compulsory to carry in France - hiviz vest, warning triangle etc. Germany has similar requirements I believe, but those are country- specific, not EU-wide*. In Ireland you don't have to have any of that but obviously they're not a bad idea. *Give it time

Never heard of the requirement of any of that here in Ireland. We live here in Dublin and I know very few people who would have any of those items in the car. If it is a requirement, it is not enforced at all. I only carry a first aid kit and fire extinguisher in my work car, not in our private car.

One finger above the steering wheel hello signal ☝🏻 to people you don’t know when you pass each other on the road and the full reverse 👋🏻 to the window shield to those you do.
