Your grocery store isn't price gouging you. Kroger's 2023 profit margin was a very slim 1.2%. *Kroger 23 financials

That is still almost $2 Billion. Net profit. After all expenses, taxes, stock buy backs, humongous executive salaries et al. ONE POINT EIGHT SEVEN NINE BILLION - or, $4,370 per employee

It’s the individual companies that sell to the stores

Publix posted a 50% profit increase from 22-23. I’d say that’s price gouging

All grocery stores have very thin margins. They have to markup what they buy to sell to us if the vendor is charging more guess what so does the supermarket.

Posts like this kill me. Ok now do it again but include actual useful information so we all have some context and without gaslighting. 1.2% of what? That sure would make a difference. Did they acquire or reinvest other potential profits toward new assets? That sure would make a difference. How much are they paying their executive team? That sure would make a difference. What’s inflation been since 2020 while corporations continue post record profits? Weird you don’t include any of this.

No one said it’s the grocery stores. It’s their suppliers. https://www.cnn.com/2023/03/29/business/egg-profits-cal-maine?cid=ios_app

It’s the 5 major supplies that fill the shelves at Kroger that are posting record profits, doing stock buybacks, an still posting dividends. Kroger is the local distributor, not the kingpin.
