It’s ok.. that person is just stupid. I used to work at a call centre, they demanded i spoke english. I told them, u come spore.. you speak english! Basic english!

Worked here many years and got used to being left out of place when ppl switch to more convenient language for them. Anyways there's always a first time for everything.. so just take it either exercising patience and know you're a foreigner or as a challenge to learn Chinese, which requires lotsa effort tho.. Ultimately, you can't please everyone so live and let live. ただ、そのままにしておいて

The person might have thought u are Chinese n couldn’t speak Chinese. Or u could have encountered a China born Chinese (Singapore has many) who can’t speak anything other than Chinese. Most local Singaporeans, unless they are very senior in age, can speak at least simple English
