not because you like someone/someone likes you means you're hoping to enter into a romantic relationship with them. the purpose of confessing your feelings is to let them know how much you admire them. that there's someone out there who's watching them grow, from afar. it's to make them feel like: "oh. there's actually something about me that can catch other folks' interest, huh."
