There's no evidence that Aaron Bushnell was mentally ill... but he was religious, growing up on a religious compound. For people who believe in the afterlife, giving up your life for a cause makes perfect sense -- whether you're an evil 9/11 terrorist thinking you'll be greeted by 72 virgins, a Viking hoping make it to Valhalla or a Christian martyr willing to die rather than renounce Jesus.
