We visited the Iwate Tsunami Memorial Museum and the Takatamatsubara Memorial Park in Rikuzentakata. The first tells the story of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami that happened today 13 years ago. The memorial park is dedicated to all the people who lost their lives and offers a place to pray and commemorate.
At the same time, it's a symbol of reconstruction and hope, as many new pine trees are planted to reconstruct the iconic pine tree forest that was destroyed by the tsunami.
