Let’s discuss a grammar and usage error I see far too many adults making: “Here’s seven things you can do to…” or “Here’s three reasons why you should…” or “Here’s 10 tips for…”
If you’re referring to more than one direct object (things, reasons, tips, etc.), you should be saying “Here are…”
Hint: If you remove the modifier (the number in these examples) and lengthen the contraction (“here’s” becomes “here is”), do you think “Here is things” or “Here is reasons” or “Here is tips” sounds right?
