Sharing this study in children that highlights the importance of white matter, which comprises 60% of our brain and is found in its deeper tissues. What I’d like to add is it continues to develop throughout our middle age, making it crucial to nurture it with learning opportunities and mental engagement. A stimulating social environment can enhance white matter integrity, while isolation and lack of mental stimulation can have detrimental effects.
