iOS 18 is going to launch this fall with the latest lineup of iPhones. I bought iPhone 14 Pro which is one from the “Pro” lineup of Apple sells and now with Apple Intelligence being announced this month, Apple’s is saying only 15 Pro and above models will be able to support the processing power of Apple Intelligence. “Pro” means the top tier and where 14 Pro support feature like satellites communication, Apple should have considered the 14 Pro lineup as its the first phone with Dynamic Island.

Note that for some reason, M1 devices are included in the list even though the A16 chips are probably far and away more powerful? The factor that links these is memory. The A17 Pro on the 15 Pro series phones are the first iPhones to have 8 gigs of memory, and if my thinking is correct, you can’t run what’s essentially an on-device LLM on anything less. On the other hand, they’re also touting the cloud features so 🤷‍♂️
