Seriously. Even *if* it was reinterpreting the Last Supper… who cares? My theory is that many Christians can see themselves in that painting as Jesus’ disciples, and replacing that familiar image with “people like that” forces us to either consider how we identify with them (and how Jesus makes space at the table for them, or why we thought they didn’t belong there in the first place) or reject them altogether. Even if it were mocking Christianity, we are supposed to turn the other cheek. Look at Jesus’s responses to others’ mistreatment throughout the events leading to his crucifixion.
