Toronto art institution question: how do you pronounce ROM and AGO and why? Both are acronyms… 🤷♂️

Rom because it can be easily said as if it’s a word. A-G-O because ago is a word already so that would just be confusing.

This is hard for me to articulate clearly but … I think the reason AGO is pronounced as initials has something to do with the fact that as a word “ago” is pronounced with the stress on “go” and as an acronym intuitively it feels like the stress should be on the “a” - like it should be pronounced “ah-go” and not like the word “ago.” And something about that feels weird and stupid. So we default to A-G-O.

🤔 i've literally never thought about this before! would be so weird to call it R.O.M. or, the ago. Marketing/PR led the way on these calls, I bet!
