“Separating the art from the artist” is such a crock of shit. There is no artist, alive or dead, in which their personal thoughts, views, and emotions don’t, in some part, affect or impact their work in any way, shape, or form.

While I think that it’s more important to avoid the works from these sorts of people that are still alive to benefit from your consumption of their work (like JK), the dead aren’t immune to this. You can’t take, for example, the work of HP Lovecraft, and separate him and his racist views from his writing because the racism is written into his work.
