Olympics-Related F1 Fun Fact: In 2009, then-F1 Supremo Bernie Ecclestone proposed scrapping the points system and giving out three medals - Gold, Silver, and Bronze - to the podium finishers at each race. At the end of the season, the driver with the most Gold medals would win the world driver's championship.
The idea behind the proposal was to encourage drivers and teams to push for wins instead of being happy with settling for 2nd place and solid points finishes.
