I think we can largely blame this on the GOP effectively working the refs (aka the media) over “bias” for decades and I mostly point to Dan Rather’s infamous interview with George HW Bush in 1988. Over time they’ve increasingly both sided most things. I think it convinced with them mostly doj t horse race coverage too, bc the horse race can’t be called partisan.
