She’s arrived!!! #CorpseFlower at @USBotanicGarden has bloomed. It happened overnight so stench is very faint. I just learned so much about these plants from volunteer. They’re bisexual. They have both male (yellow) and female (red) flowers but they can’t self-pollinate. They had to cut a hole in the #CorpsePlant to expose its male and female flowers to manually pollinate it. In the wild, its natural pollinator is a beetle that’s attracted to smell of rotting flesh. #DC
