excellent podcast! i understand the desire to control your software stack, but i have concerns around rivians ability get app developers to target your platform. excited to see it play out, in the meantime carplay remains king

Great interview! Please back up the money truck and hire @marcoarment to bring the Overcast podcast player to Rivian. Its my top CarPlay app & the biggest thing keeping me from buying an R1S.

I haven’t listened yet but completely agree with the headline. Certainly, some newer brands, like Lucid, should also drop copying Tesla’s direct to consumer model because these brands can’t scale. The franchise dealer model continues to thrive with traditional OEMs and their lobby is powerful, so DTC brands suffer. Plus, the market has shifted from electric being a niche, unique selling proposition to mainstream. Polestar’s retail model makes sense but their products have been less compelling.

Really good episode but I feel like @reckless1280 could have pushed harder on “R3X take my money!” … I know I know you’re trying to “be responsible” and “not tank the company” but counterpoint: I really want an R3X.

I know it's late, but I just got to this. All I really heard was that Rivian is spending limited resources implementing infotainment features that someone else already built, already maintains, and customers are already happier with. All the effort implementing "CarPlay’s most desirable features", "better integration with texting", and "better mapping" could be used to make the rest of the car interface better instead. Effort that will never keep up with the phone apps.
