Gosh, I love this guy.

My Haitian bestie is a nurse: always studying to better herself, is hardworking, calm (even on the ocassions when the patient screams for a white nurse, "not her"), makes the best potato salad ever, and is one of the most loving, funniest human beings I have ever had the honor of having in my life. And no, she does not eat dogs nor cats.

A long time ago when I was a young corpsman in training, another trainee would not leave me alone after I told him I didn’t want to date him. One night he was hammering on my barracks room door screaming when suddenly it went silent. The petty officer on watch HM2 Benoit had, according to my across the hall neighbor, grabbed the guy by the collar and dragged him into the stairwell. The guy couldn’t even look at me next day and HM2 Benoit told me to tell him if he ever bothered me again.

I worked at a posh Country Club in Florida. I worked with all men and a large portion of them were from Guatemala and Haiti. One in particular man was one of 17 children. He was about 65-70 years old, a Deacon in his church, married with 4 great kids. He never addressed me by my name but always Ma’am. His boss wrote him up to be selected for employee of the quarter. I was a student of photography and had to do a portrait of someone. I chose my Henry. He had so many hidden stories 1/2

2/2 In his face…. My co-worker, his immediate boss said he was the best worker!! Henry wound up being picked for employee of the year! I gave the portrait to our HR department where it hung for a year. I always think of him. He was thoughtful, kind, a hard worker, honest and such a love! 💙
