Required, no, elective, sure. So should other skills. I took electrical shop in 8th grade and learned how to wire a socket and make a circuit. Wood shop, book keeping, etc. who remembers typing or keyboarding classes? We all had these and they were useful. Required today, I don’t think we need to require them.

If it is added to a curriculum as extra time spent at school, then whatever. But it shouldn’t replace any actual academics, which is what school should focus on & emphasize.
