I hear the term “you need to have thick skin” thrown around a lot in the construction industry. Over the years I’ve realised this is absolute bullshit. You should not need to have thick skin to be in an industry. Sure, construction is hard, the hours are long, it’s manual labour, it’s bloody hard on you both physically and mentally but we’re using the term “thick skin” to excuse people’s shitty behaviour. It shouldn’t be this hard to be nicer to each other.
