Today, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is ordering Navient to pay $120 million in refunds and penalties for its wide-ranging student loan failures and crimes. More importantly, Navient, formerly known as Sallie Mae, will be banned from ever directly servicing federal student loans. I still believe any amount of money a student loan has accumulated over the original amount of the loan, due to the government negligence, should be paid back to the student who took out original loan.
