During crises like earthquakes, it wasn’t government or corporate aid that made the biggest impact—80% of the funding came from individuals, giving $1, $50, or $100, whatever they could. This is the essence of Taipei: empathy. It’s what makes people from all walks of life feel at home, whether you’re young, old, rich, poor, local, or foreign. Taipei is a city where everyone belongs.
