The one who seeks finds and the one who knocks the door shall be opened. Keep seeking and you will find. It is good that you don’t understand. The Word says to lean not on your own understanding. Be an infant and read it as a child. If your heart is postured this way, He will reveal Himself to you. Fear The Lord, this is the beginning.

Hey! Read it again! 🥰This time, get a study Bible and read the commentary that comes with it. If you are reading KJV, you might get a different translation like NIV or NLT to help you understand it better. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you eyes that see and ears to hear and help understanding the scriptures. Confess any sin in your life and ask Jesus to be the Lord over your life. Pray before reading. There are so many layers to the scriptures. It would take more than a life time to grasp it all. Take small bits and ask God what he wants you to understand.

I’m sure you’ve received many insightful responses by now, so this one might not be as helpful but as someone who didn’t grow up Christian but Catholic I can say that reading without first talking to God doesn’t do much. Speak to Him. When you’re driving, getting dressed, while you eat breakfast… all day long. Speak to Him and He will guide your reading and open your understanding. The best way that I’m able to understand the teachings of the Bible is by associating the word to my personal life.

An encouragement that has helped me is think of reading the Word as a connection time with God. You are not reading the Bible as just a time to grow in knowledge, but grow in relationship with Hin who created you. Keep reading, the eyes of your heart will keep opening each time!
