I've been thinking about that whole "the curtains are blue" discussion and how it's important to be able to analyze *why* an author would make them blue. As someone who's written a few books, I don't think people realize how hard it'd be to put symbolic detail into every sentence. Like, we'd never, ever finish writing a single book. Yes, literary analysis is important, but sometimes those curtains are just blue.
