As someone who works with both styles here is how I describe the differences to those who ask: Documentary: intentional, in the moment, sponteneous, less structured, emotive. Editorial: fashion-forward, artful, innovative. The definition of editorial is “to be published” and documentary is to document an accurate representation of people, places, objects & events.
