I remembered, 20 over years ago, I was just a senior software engineer sitting among hundreds of staffs listening to our General Manager addressing us in an annual symposium. He said, he wanted us software engineers to step up to become software architects. He wanted us to do only software design, and leave all those coding stuffs to the offshore development companies.

幾秒內	Dennis Chang dennischangsg	From the way he put it, he seemed to equate software design to IC design, and coding to PCB soldering. However, software development is very different from hardware manufacturing. Coding is an integral part of s/w development, and source codes is always an important asset to a software firm. Today, Amazon cloud chief claims a similar stance. I still don't agree with it. AI can generate code snippets to assist in coding. But it is still a long shot to claim that it can totally replace coding.
12 小時內	Pauly kingpauly5	I agree i find myself feeling more like a software architect when coding with AI. Knowing how where and why i should place certain code and what tech stack for various scenarios. Writing short sentences with those focuses so the need to know the actual code syntax isn’t really needed much unless your using a ton of libraries apis. And even then LLMs can learn new libraries quicker than us reading latest docs for syntax.
