When we buy furniture or appliances, they always try to defer to my husband who just redirects back to me. They’re usually sweating by the time we are done because they cannot comprehend. (Note: I’m nice as a customer, but if you want to sell me a washer with a special transmission, you’re going to need to explain why I need it 😂)

A certain carpet chain store once asked me, looking for a simple wood floor, if my husband was handy with tools. I looked the dude square in the eye & said, no, he does not know which side of a screwdriver to use. I own all the power tools in the house. And walked out.

😱 FFS. Who taught that salesperson? ALL the relevant research in big ticket sales says that it is primarily the female partner (trans or otherwise) in any hetero relationship that makes the buying decision. If you’re not selling to the lady, you’re not getting the sale. Dumbass.

I saw a similar post from someone hiring a contractor who asked if he could speak to the husband about the work needed and somebody explained that they want both decision makers of the household informed so they don’t have to make the sales pitch twice. Maybe that’s what happened here but idk they shouldn’t assume everyone who wants a new dishwasher or whatever is married

I (M) once tagged along with a friend (F) to an electronics store. I don’t even remember what she needed, but it was something I knew very little about. We walked up to a customer service employee (M) and my friend started asking very informed questions about specs and different models and whatnot. The employee looked at her while she was talking, but then looked at me when he spoke, and directed his questions to me, despite the fact that I hadn’t said a word other than “hi.” 🙄

There’s an old school appliance store in my town called The Homemakers Villa. I would never set foot in this place, but they would definitely ask this question there.
