The saying “blood is thicker than water” is oftentimes misquoted and misinterpreted. We usually use the phrase to mean that family bonds are more important than friends. But the full quote is “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" meaning that the chosen bonds we make in our lives are stronger than the ones we are born with. This has totally changed my perspective from what I once thought the saying meant and how I approach my relationships with family and friends.
