I’ve been struggling to write a father-daughter scene in my middle-grade novel. With very little to draw from—my biological father was absent, and my stepfather was a monster—I felt stuck. But after watching the #Walz family, something clicked. The #DNC inspired me to channel the emotions and dynamics I needed to create the right scene. It reminded me that even when our own experiences fall short, we can find the inspiration we need in the stories of others, and now in this election. guswaltz
