I did the latter this past spring training, and while it greatly expedited my workflow while in the camera well, getting photos off of an iPhone with a Lightning port is a huge hassle.

Library management is the best out there, and once you get used to the interface, it's super powerful and has Lightroom and a lot of Photoshop like functionality in one program. One time payment of less than $100, although I usually upgrade every couple years. If you sign up for their mailing list, they're always some sort of discount on the price.
