as a cashier (out of necessity), yes to all of this. I can't walk home after a single shift because I'm expected to stack the shelves and ring up customers all on my feet with only a 15 min break. It's not nearly enough. If I can't fulfill my duties sitting, I won't do it at all. I've considered quitting too many times this week.

Amen to that. I worked in retail for years and perfected the art of sitting on the drawer behind me, feet on the drawer in front. It looked like I was standing 😁

In the late 1980s I worked the cashier counter at a gas station in Michigan and had a stool to sit on. I could also do my college homework if there weren’t any customers that needed to check out.

It is to look more professional. The only way you can sit down is if you have medical issues and the company knows about it.

Protestant/ Catholic capitalists decided that people sitting are lazy and they think if you’re standing they are getting their moneies worth if you’re suffering. The same folks who want you to stand all day won’t pay for your healthcare when you’re 70 and can barely walk due to your misaligned hips.

When I was a cashier I literally had multiple customers get mad at me for leaning to give my back a break

My whole mind was blown when I saw Aldi gives their cashiers chairs. My old boss used to punish us by taking chairs so we couldn't sit down.
